Statement from new board PRESIDENT

9/27/24

Hello, Friends:

My name is Paul Stehr-Green. I have recently taken on the role of President of the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society (OPHS) Board. It is a challenge I accept with honor and humility.

It is a difficult time for OPHS. As you are aware, the organization has struggled of late with a litany of financial and operational problems, some that were visited upon us (most notably the COVID-19 pandemic and its aftermath) and some of our own making.

At the advice of a valued group of advisors (comprising donors, financial advisors, veterinary professionals, and others), OPHS has temporarily stopped taking in new dogs and cats so that the Board can develop a new structure and operating plan for the organization.

At this point, the planning has just begun. It is our expectation that the reimagined organization will continue to provide the highest quality of care for the animals in our facilities, but also establish a culture that incorporates

· mutual commitment and respect for all members of the OPHS family,

· a hierarchy with clear responsibilities/expectations and chain-of-command, and · dedication at all levels to financial discipline.

Your continued support of the organization is important. We, and more importantly, the kitties and puppies in our care, need your volunteer time and donations. If you want to be a part of the rebuilding process at any level (volunteer, Board member, employee, donor), send us an e-mail at info@ophumanesociety.org or call us at (360) 457-8206.

Finally, I pledge that we will keep you informed about what’s happening throughout this process in a timely and complete manner, through social media, e-mails, and public forums. Remember: we’re all in this together…for our furry friends!

Take care, and thanks.

Paul
